  7.      Everyone seems to have a plan to assist the citizens of
  8. the former Soviet Union, and the CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY is no
  9. exception. For the past month, journalism students at the
  10. 237-year-old Moscow State University have been studying in the
  11. newly renovated L. Ron Hubbard Reading Room. Scientology
  12. propaganda in dozens of languages lines the walls, and video
  13. equipment is available. Pictures of Hubbard decorate the
  14. corridors, along with a bronze bust of "The Founder." Students,
  15. who have only the vaguest idea who Hubbard is, are impressed by
  16. the lavish appointments. But Western scholars in Moscow are
  17. outraged that the cult has gained such influence. With an
  18. outpost in an established university, Scientologists plan to
  19. launch a college of their own in Moscow this summer.
